18 HRV10 Q Plus units from ventilation specialist Titon have been installed in Orwell Housing Association’s newly constructed affordable homes at The Maltings development in Bury St Edmunds.

The project, which was managed by Seamans Building, resulted in the partly derelict, red brick Maltings building being transformed into 35 one and two-bedroom apartments, with the Titon Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units being fitted in January 2013.

Nick Dye, Quantity Surveyor at Seamans Building commented: “The Maltings was subjected to structural and aesthetic improvements during its conversion into 35 affordable flats and maisonettes. Each property had a heat recovery installation, with the 18 that had the highest demands being fitted with HRV10 Q Plus units from Titon. We selected Titon’s product as part of our ongoing drive to value engineering costs.

He continued: “While the general heating is provided by natural gas boilers, the MVHR system will reduce heat waste and recycle heat from exhaust air, so that less gas is used and bills are reduced. This is in addition to the obvious health benefits and green credentials of such a system.”

Titon’s HRV10 Q Plus MVHR units are designed for use in medium to large sized dwellings in line with new build design requirements. The unit is independently tested by the BRE and is EST Best Practice compliant. The combination of extremely low power consumption and a highly efficient heat exchanger is specifically designed to enhance SAP performance via Appendix Q and can be incorporated into larger apartments or medium to large sized dwellings.
